CANCER CANCER CANCER

CANCER CANCER CANCER.

As I stated before, my blog posts will never be formal. I will not be politically or grammar correct, and some things will most likely be spelled wrong. But, with that said, I plan on bitching anyway. So here goes for blog number 2.

HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE EVER DONATED TO THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY? HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE SEEN THE TOTAL DEFICIT FOR THE COUNTRY LATELY?

I got on the topic of the Susan G. Koman race that I took part in, in memory of my grandmother, who passed in September of breast cancer. A few of my coworkers and I were talking about donation money, and how there is still nt a cure for cancer. No cure, the world deficit is in shambles, and athletes and wall street CEO's making millions per day. So I did some digging, and this is what I found.

A report that I recently read noted that the American Cancer Society raised just over 1 billion dollars last year. Now, for a CANCER society, raising money solely on donations, that is an amazing amount. HOWEVER. Almost half of that money never made it to research, or a CURE.

The ACS recorded that 72% of their entire income last year went to programs, funding, and overall medical purposes. That leaves 28% of the income to pay for the 15 million dollars they spent on tv and radio advertising (YES, I DID JUST SAY 15 MILLION DOLLARS ON TV AND RADIO ADVERTISING) and the $1,650,000 salary of their CEO (YES, THE CEO OF A DONATION ORGANIZATION SUCH AS THE ACS IS A FUCKING MILLIONAIRE). So, basically, the CEO of the American Cancer Society is a millionaire, and day in and day out, there still is no formidable cure for cancer.

The ACS reports 72% in 2011, HOWEVER, an entirely different story comes to light when .... wait for it ... they are audited. During the audit, it was found that only 62% of their entire income went to medical purposes, leaving 48% of all of their donations to be spent freely. CNN reported that 15-20 cents on every dollar donated goes to medical advancement, leaving 80 cents per dollar free.

The CEO of the ACS is not the only issue here. Johnathon W. Simons, the CEO of the Prostate Cancer Institute for ACS made $880,801 in salary last year before benefits, and was then given a $475,000 yearly increase and bonus at the end of 2011. That is two times more money than CEO's of similar stature. Edward Bentz, CEO of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for ACS made $848,802 last year. Stephen Prescott, Director of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, made $806,150 last year. His increase in pay was 66% more than the previous director.

Now don't get me wrong. I completely understand that the medical field is money, money, money. I also understand that the people I noted are very smart, and I am sure they do an amazing job in the medical and cancer field. HOWEVER. How many people died last year of cancer? 571,950 people.

CAN I SAY HOWEVER ANYMORE DURING THIS BLOG?

I fully support the fight against cancer. But when facts such as these come to surface, it makes it difficult to do just that.

Side note.

As of yesterday, the US deficit when I checked was at 15,683,686,802,576.77. With the population of America being around 312,723,870, that means that each individual would be in debt 50,151.88. Reassuring isn't it?

Now, to tied that all together, and since I am on the topic of curing cancer, here is one more tidbit of information. According to Forbes 2011, the top 20 athletes in the world made a combined 743.3 MILLION DOLLARS, and that is in 2011 alone. The top 20 athletes make up almost 70% of the total amount of money that the ACS took in for all of 2011. Add the New York Yankees payroll to that 2011 total and we are almost matching dollar for dollar.

SHAKING MY HEAD.

OH, AND NORTH CAROLINA, WAY TO FUCK IT UP. PATHETIC. NOH8.
